Can I receive cost-sharing subsidies if I enroll in a Bronze, Gold or Platinum plan?
No. If you qualify for cost-sharing subsidies, you must choose a Silver plan to get the savings to your co-payments, co-insurance, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. If you qualify for these cost-sharing subsidies, you will get the out-of-pocket savings benefits of a Gold or Platinum plan for a Silver plan price. You can choose any category of plan, but you will get the out-of-pocket savings only if you enroll in a Silver plan.
Note that this is different from the rule for premium assistance. You can apply premium assistance to all four types of plans, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. However, if you are eligible for both kinds of help (that is, if your income is between 138%* and 250% of the FPL, you can only receive both types of subsidies if you enroll in a Silver-level plan.
You will be able to choose your plan category when you fill out your Covered California health plan application. These questions were copied from Covered CA’s FAQ’s
